Im compiling a dvd of video clips from various memories. The way the files were recorded is (i think) irrelevant, as they were all re-encoded for the net etc... I am re-encoding the files into dvd format and for the settings I need to know how to figure out if the source is interlaced or non-interlaced(progressive). Does it matter what I set the video type to? and if so how do I find out what the source type is?

If you open the clip with a video editing program and export a single frame (preferably in a part with some fast motion), it should be fairly obvious if it's interlaced or not (if it is, you'll see jagged lines in the edges when you look at the frame). If it is interlaced, you need to make sure you set the right field order. If the source is not interlaced, it's irrelevant if you set the source to interlaced or not.

If the clips have been encoded "for the net", they were probably deinterlaced and scaled down. Which means you'll probably get better quality if you can recapture the originals at full resolution.
