I've encoded an DV-pal AVI file in tmpgenc and everything seems fine. the only thing I don't understand is that when I play the file in WMP or media player classic it says that the file is the format 736 * 576. Why? Why has it changed from 720 * 576??

736 doesn't make any sense indeed. For playback on a PC screen, the player should resize it to 768x576 (square-pixel aspect ratio), but it should always report its real size.

When you encoded in TMPGenc, are you sure the output size was 720x576?

Have you tried opening the resulting MPEG-2 file with a DVD player (ex., PowerDVD), and then exporting one frame?
