can anyone explain the difference between Transport and Program Streams? and the advantage/ disadvantage of each other?

Typically, a transport stream has added error-detection and correction mechanisms, compared to a program stream, and is designed to recover faster when an error does occur. If you're going to transmit the data over an unreliable connection, use a transport stream.
The actual contents of the stream (i.e., video and audio quality) are not affected by its type. Note that, for the same contents, a transport stream usually requires more space / bandwidth, since it carries extra "control" information.
