Hey. I have been trying to encode an avi exported from Premire 6.0. The AVI looks good, but when the resulting m2v file is too dark. I don't want TMGenc to change the contrast or brightness.

I read something in your guide which alludes to the "Output basic YCbCr
" setting. I have it selected.

You mentioned that Main Concept's DV codecs may be incompatible with this setting. I know Adobe 6.5 uses Main Concept's mpeg encoding, but am not aware of what it uses for a simple export, using Huffy.

Any ideas? Should I try disabling this feature?

I know Premiere 6.0 doesn't include a DV codec, so it'll use whatever is installed in your system (normally yhe Microsoft codec). It's possible that, since Premiere 6.5 comes with the MainConcept MPEG encoder, it also includes their DV codec, so I'd say it's worth a try. Make a couple of tests with short clips and compare them on your computer (using PowerDVD, for example). That way you don't waste any time / money recording DVDs.

Also, instead of exporting to an intermediate AVI file, try exporting directly from Premiere to TMPGEnc using a frame server (see this guide for details).

P.S. - It's not "huffy", it's "HuffYUV" (YUV data compressed using the Huffman algorithm).
