Hi.
In case any PAL person is interested, I have foound satisfatory parametres for encoding with Procoder2. And I share them.
For a 54 min programme, using QT reference files (out of AVID), I have found:
You need to change the source video preset from "Non-interlaced" to Lower filed first.
No harm, on the target bit, to use 2 pass VBR (max 8000, av 6000, min 0).
Use Mastering Quality. It takes a lot more time, but the difference is notable.
I have spent weeks on this and if this info helps, I am glad.
All input is welcome as we are in a jungle out here.
God bless,
D |

Min better 2000 and difference between mastering and highest I don't notice.
On 1 DVD with VRB2 9000/7000/2000 fit ~85-90 min video. _________________ 21"IBM|9550XT|AMD-1700+|512DDR|120+80GB|DVD+/-RW/411S|Audigy+5300|K7VTA3|WinXP |

Thanks, B.
I will give your Highest Versus Mastering quality a shot.
I have also found that one pass VBR (8000,6000,0) is visually as good as the two pass. Do you agree?
Thanks, D |

Ohhh,
And thanks for the min thing as well. I'll try that too... but what difference does it make for final DVD output?
Thanks, D |

Some older players have problems when the bitrate drops below 2000 Kb/s. For maximum compatibility, keep the video bitrate between 2 Mb/s and 8 Mb/s.

Compatibility is indeed a huge factor. Your explanation for having a min is greatly appreciated. SOme of my clients have complained about incompatibility.
Thanks D |

It won't solve all problems, though. Many players really cannot play recordable discs.
The RW formats are only compatible with about 40% of players. DVD+R is compatible with about 85%, and even the most supported format, DVD-R, is only compatible with about 90%. Problems increase with older players, designed before recordable discs were common.
The media's brand can also have an influence. Generally, Maxell, Pioneer and TDK have the best compatibility, but some players only like certain brands.
In some cases, it's trial and error, really...
