Hi.

I have been asked to record a many-voiced choir. I think 'polyphonic' might be the word.

What kind of mics do I need (type and possibly brand name)?

The type of microphone depends on the type of recorder, how the tracks will be distributed, etc..

You really should ask a professional sound mixer to do it; it's not just a matter of the microphones. You can have the best microphones in the world, and still produce a terrible result (just as even the best camera in the world will produce bad results in the hands of an amateur, but a professional camera operator or cinematographer can usually get good results even with a poor camera).

Also, good microphones can be very expensive (more expensive than some cameras). Unless you're going to use them for a lot of projects, it's cheaper to just hire a professional or a specialised company, that will charge you only for the days during which the equipment is used.
