Getting ready to master a few videotapes that were recorded before the HiFi VHS days, so the sound on them is mono. Do you have any suggestions for optimizing disc space because of this? I cannot think of anything since the final DVD audio has to be two channel anyway, but thought I would check to be sure I am not missing something.

As long as you encode it as "joint stereo", virtually all the data will be used for the first channel, so you get better overall quality for the same rate.
