I am using Canopus DV-Rex M! hardware inconjunction with my P4 3Ghz computer editing system. I have Premiere 5 and Mediastudio 7 but for simple quick editing I use the Canopus Rex Edit software and then output the timeline into MPEG2 using the Soft MPEG v1.9 software plugin from Canopus. This is slower than realtime conversion (sometime 2x). After encoding I then use DVDit 5.0 to author my DVDs.
The question is, would I get improved productivity (ie faster encodes) by using the TMPGEn software? What's the typical encode time using TMPGEn? Other advantages to using TMPGEnc?
Thanks in advance |

Mostly, TMPGEnc gives you better quality and much finer control over encoding parameters. It's not particularly fast (on the contrary; if you use high-quality settings, it's one of the slowest encoders out there).
