I've looked around for an answer to this, and am rather stumped. I recently did a bunch of encoding and while looking at the encoded .m2v files and .vob files on my machine, the blacks look like blacks. When I went and popped the disc in my settop player, the blacks looked grey.
I did the authoring of this disc through TMPGEnc DVD Author v1.5 and the burn through Nero 6.0. I'm working in an NSTC environment if this helps.
Original source material was recorded onto a DVCAM deck and played off the same deck; video levels *NOT* adjusted whatsoever.
Any help with this is greatly appreciated. |

Your set-top player may have an incorrect setup level output (NTSC can use two different levels for black). You may have an option to ajust this in the player's setup menu. Also, try the disc on other set-top players and see if the same thing happens.
